Board Policies
The Board of Directors (the Board) of the Nova Scotia Regulator of Physiotherapy serves and protects the public interest by regulating the practice of physiotherapy and governing registrants in Nova Scotia.
The Board governs using the Policy Governance model. Through concise, high-level policies, the Board sets the organization’s Ends, defines values and risk tolerances, and delegates authority to the Registrar/Executive Director while maintaining a clear separation between governance and operations.
Under this model, the Board:
-
Sets direction: Establishes Ends and governance policies that state the organization’s purpose, priorities, and standards.
-
Delegates prudently: Grants operational authority through Executive Limitations and Board–Registrar linkage policies.
-
Assures performance: Monitors compliance and outcomes via scheduled reporting, evaluation of Ends achievement, and regular Board self-assessment.
This approach clarifies roles, strengthens accountability, and supports consistent, outcome-focused decision-making across the organization. It is widely used by public-interest regulators and other not-for-profit boards.
