Review of Registrar’s Dismissal

Pursuant to the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), S.N.S. 2023, c. 15, ss. 77 – 79

If Your Complaint Is Dismissed

If the Registrar decides to dismiss your complaint, you have the right to ask for that decision to be reviewed.

A review gives the Complaints Committee the opportunity to look at the Registrar's decision and determine whether the complaint should remain dismissed or continue through the complaints process.

Who can request a review?

Only the complainant (the person who made the complaint) may request a review of the Registrar's dismissal.

What is the deadline?

Your written request must be received by the NSRPT within 30 days after you receive the Registrar's written dismissal decision.

What should I include?

Please include:

  • your name and contact information;
  • a copy of the Registrar's dismissal decision;
  • a brief explanation of why you believe the dismissal should be reviewed; and
  • any supporting information you believe is relevant.

Where do I send my request?

Please send your written request to either:

What Happens Next?

Once your request is received, it will be referred to a panel of the Complaints Committee for review.

The Committee will review:

  • your original complaint;
  • the information considered by the Registrar;
  • the Registrar's reasons for dismissing the complaint; and
  • the information included with your request for review.

After completing its review, the Complaints Committee may:

  • confirm the Registrar's decision to dismiss the complaint; or
  • direct that the complaint continue for further investigation or consideration under the RHPA.

You and the physiotherapist will receive the Committee's decision in writing, including the reasons for the decision.

Important: A request for review is not a new complaint. It is a review of the Registrar's decision based on the information available and any additional information you provide in support of your request
